Wedding trends that aren't going anywhere soon

Every year we talk about wedding trends for that year. We talk about the pantone colour of the year (peach fuzz if you didn’t know!), or what dress styles we think we’ll be seeing etc. These things may come and go, in a year or two, or they may even hang around a bit longer, but there are some trends that I don’t see going anywhere soon.

The one I’m going to talk about today is sustainability. It’s something my couples are talking more and more about when we are discussing not just their wedding florals but their weddings in general. Unfortunately there’s no getting away from the fact weddings generate a huge carbon footprint, and I’m not here to make you feel bad about wanting a big old party! But instead maybe to highlight a couple of small things you can think about to help reduce this without taking away from your Wedding Day!

As you know at Bloomify we are considerate of the environment when we design and create your florals. We don’t use floral foam, if we can incorporate British flowers within your aesthetic we do, and if we are adding styling elements we will hire these in most of the time so they are being reused.

But I want to talk about some of the other ways you can think about sustainability when planning your wedding.

Food – When designing your menu can you use local produce? This will often reduce the carbon footprint of the food before it has got to you, and also supports the community in which you are getting married.

Wedding Décor – You absolutely should not compromise on the aesthetic of your wedding, after all it is UNIQUELY YOUR DAY! However, can you source second hand items, or can you use a styling company and hire in. A good example is brollies, let’s be honest we aren’t blessed with an endless summer and so some people often want to provide gorgeous brollies, particularly for the Wedding Party. Rather than buying these in for the one day, where they will most definitely get left behind, why not source these from one of the facebook groups, and sell them on after, or hire them from a wedding stylist? Wedding Attire – You can source your Wedding dresses, suits, jumpsuits or whatever you feel comfortable wearing from ethical designers. They might use sustainable fabrics, or are made using second hand material. You could also look to repurpose an old dress for your “something old”.

These are just some ideas you could incorporate into your wedding day. You don’t have to make your whole wedding sustainable at the expense of the day you want. Maybe pick one or two practises you could incorporate. After all small steps can make a big difference.
